Navy Life
Kyle was commissioned into the Navy in March 2011 and we were married the next month! Our first duty station was Mayport, FL (only 2 hours from home) on the USS Samuel B. Roberts! He left on his first deployment on my birthday, June 14, 2011. During his first deployment, I stayed behind in Orlando and continued working while we built a house! After visiting over 10 countries, he returned 6 months later on December 14, 2011! For most of 2012, he was "home" as the ship was in dry dock, but did spend some time out to sea doing workups preparing for the next deployment.
In April 2013, he left on his 2nd deployment. This deployment was Mediterranean based and I was fortunate enough to visit him while the ship was in Italy! We had the trip of a lifetime visiting Naples, Sorrento, Positano and the Amalfi Coast!
In May 2013, we received news that we would be heading to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for our next duty station! I had mixed emotions to be SO far from family, but regardless, we began planning for all that was to come including the quarantine process for our dog, housing, selling one of our cars, etc.
Kyle returned from his 2nd deployment on October 23, 2013 and we spent the few weeks after preparing our house for move and saying goodbye to our friends and life in Jacksonville.
On November 14, 2013, we left Jacksonville to head to Virginia Beach for Kyle to attend a month long training. We left Jacksonville with an "extra passenger" on board as we found out that morning that we were expecting!
After the month of training in Virginia Beach, we returned to Florida to spend the holidays with our family. On January 13, 2014, we said goodbye to the east coast and hello to Hawaii! Kyle was stationed at Destroyer Squadron 31 where he was the Assistant Material Officer from January 2014-July 2015.
We were fortunate enough to receive orders back to Mayport, Florida (and family) which is really "home" for us. Kyle served as the Train to Qualify Officer at LCSRON TWO from July 2015-June 2017.
In December 2016, Kyle was selected for a lateral transfer into the Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community. With that news, we received orders for Monterey, California for Kyle to attend Naval Postgraduate School. He graduated with a Master of Science in Systems Engineering in June 2019. Kyle then attended EDO School for 5 weeks in Port Hueneme.
We were ecstatic to get orders back to "home" to Jacksonville, FL where Kyle will be stationed at Mayport at Southeast Regional Maintenance Facility (SERMC).
